new loom and a sampler
One of the first books I purchased as a new weaver was called "Designing Woven Fabric." That's just what I wanted to do! Unfortunately, my first loom was only 22 inches wide, and the sampler from the book required a wider weaving width.
Then I purchased a second-hand loom from my wonderful local yarn store - a 36 inch, cherry Schacht standard with four harnesses, expandable to 8. I only needed 4 for the sampler, so the first project on the loom was the one that was going to unlock the mystery of weaving design.
Well, I learned a lot. I learned that a 26" x 152" sampler uses a TON of yarn. I learned how tie-ups alter pattern. And I learned that, while four harnesses offer many options, I want even more. Sounds like it's time to order the additional harnesses to make this an 8-harness loom!
