autism speaks
My local yarn store isn't quite so local to me. A self-guided yarn store crawl many years ago led to the discovery of a great shop about an hour away. In all my travels near home and far away, I have yet to find a shop I like better than Twist Knitting and Spinning in Lahaska, PA.
In addition to offering a wide selection of knitting and weaving yarns and spinning fibers, Twist teaches classes in a variety of subjects. My first weaving and spinning lessons were at Twist. The large, comfortable "living room" is welcoming any time the store is open. I can only imagine how much time I would spend there if I lived closer!
Among the many community building aspects of the store is an annual Sheep to Shawl event to benefit Autism Speaks. I have woven and spun for the event, but some years I haven't been able to attend. At least I can donate a woven or knitted item for the silent auction. This "Peach Blocks" scarf was my 2015 donation to the event.
