Introducing ... Jack!

Introducing ... Jack!

I’m sure I’m a typical first time grandmother, with the most beautiful and perfect grandson in the world!

Of course, preparations for the new baby’s arrival included lots of weaving and knitting. I wanted to weave a special baby blanket, and what could be more special than cashmere! I modified a draft I’d used before to make twill hearts interspersed with three diamonds to represent the new family of three. Gray and natural matched the colors of the walls and rug. My daughter requested a freeform tapestry for the nursery wall. Definitely out of my comfort zone, but she was happy with the result. Next, she needed curtains and couldn’t find any she liked, so four panels of white plain weave curtains with supplemental warp threads to match accent colors in the room came next.

Jack Louis joined our family on 1/23/20. While waiting for word from the hospital, I visited a new-to-me yarn store and purchased a skein of my favorite turquoise. In the first three days of his life, I channeled my excitement into knitting a sweater and hat. I’m sure there will be many more handmade Jack items to come!
